Meet our Member Companies – MediaNet Software

TechBirmingham thrives through its immensely talented and diverse group of member companies. Meet our Member Companies is an ongoing Q&A series highlighting this group of movers, shakers and makers in B’ham’s tech industry.

Meet Enrique Goizueta, Regional Director at MediaNet Software. He spends his time between Madrid and Birmingham. Read on to get to know more about MediaNet and the great things they are doing in Birmingham and beyond.

Hi Enrique! Let’s get started — Tell us more about MediaNet.

MediaNet excels providing the appropriate solution for the technological challenge of our clients, through the commitment of “talentech” people who share their love for quality and innovation. Founded in 1995 MediaNet has grown up to a team of more than 200 professionals specialized in different fields of technology, spread in Spain, the United States of America and Mexico.

Innovation is what we eat for breakfast. After 20 years of history and over 300 projects, the common factors that have characterized each of them are, in short, innovation thinking to solve problems, professionalism of our team, as well commitment of each and everyone one of our employees.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about your field?

Misconception: If it works, don’t change it! We live in a fascinating but rapidly changing world that requires organizations to continuous-learning, adapt and innovate on a daily basis.

What exciting news or product/service announcements does your company have on the horizon?

The biggest news is opening our office earlier this year in Birmingham. We are excited to be a part of this community and to continue in the growth of innovative products and services here.

How do you feel about the Birmingham tech scene?

It’s exciting! We see loads of potential to get BHM to grow and become a major technology hub in the area. Biggest challenge identified so far is local talent acquisition.

Thanks so much for sharing, Enrique!

Meet our Member Companies – MacMedia

TechBirmingham thrives through its immensely talented and diverse group of member companies. Meet our Member Companies is an ongoing Q&A series highlighting this group of movers, shakers and makers in B’ham’s tech industry.

Meet McKinnon Maddox, President/Owner of MacMedia. He has lived in Birmingham the last 13 years and started MacMedia three years ago. Read on to get to know more about MacMedia and the great things they are doing in Birmingham and beyond.

Hi McKinnon! Let’s get started — Tell us more about MacMedia.

MacMedia is a hybrid web design & internet marketing company. We help companies develop an online identity. We build websites, create videos, and use social media campaigns to reach new customers for our clients. As mobile usage continues to rise, we are providing cutting-edge mobile marketing strategies to reach customers in the right places. Our hybrid marketing model allows us to integrate our services and adopt new technologies quickly to provide an all-inclusive marketing experience for businesses in Birmingham.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about your field?

Many companies underestimate the importance of their digital footprint and how they appear on the Internet. Today, customers are reading reviews of local businesses, watching videos, visiting websites, and forming an opinion to determine what they will purchase & from whom they will purchase. 75% of customers looking for a local business use Google to find the business. A company never gets a second chance to make a good first impression. Your digital brand influences the reputation of your business, and it should be prioritized accordingly.

What exciting news or product/service announcements does your company have on the horizon?

MacMedia just launched a new website that features significant places in downtown Birmingham. www.macmediamarketing.com

How do you feel about the Birmingham tech scene?

We are proud to have facilities like the Innovation Depot and organizations like Tech Birmingham that encourage the growth of our tech scene. Our potential continues to increase, and it is becoming less challenging to convince others of our existing ecosystem. We are confident that we are heading in the right direction and are optimistic about the future.

Anything else about you or your company you want us to share?

It is our pleasure to be working with so many incredible people, talents, and companies in Birmingham. We look forward to the future growth of our city and continuing to challenge the status quo.

Thanks so much for sharing, McKinnon!

Meet our Member Companies – Protec Recycling

TechBirmingham thrives through its immensely talented and diverse group of member companies. Meet our Member Companies is an ongoing Q&A series highlighting this group of movers, shakers and makers in B’ham’s tech industry.

Meet Danny Skinner, President of Protec Recycling. He has spent is whole life in Birmingham with the exception of college. Read on to get to know more about Protec Recycling and the great things they are doing in Birmingham and beyond.

Hi Danny! Let’s get started — Tell us more about Protec Recycling.

Protec Recycling has a goal to manage Alabama’s electronic waste in the most environmentally-sustainable way without compromising data security in the process. We work with business and government throughout the state, conducting full-service pickups of end-of-life IT assets and other electronics. Those items are transported to our facility where they are dismantled and separated into clean, reusable commodities. And, because data security is such a crucial aspect of responsibly retiring equipment, we destroy hard drives with our on-board shredder at the client’s location. It’s not only for brand protection; many use this service to maintain compliance.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about your field?

Because we collect what was once valuable equipment, many expect our services to be free. Our biggest competition is the landfill and, unfortunately, some would still rather “toss it in the creek” than pay us a nominal fee to remove and responsibly recycle their electronics.

What exciting news or product/service announcements does your company have on the horizon?

Our website is currently in development and is expected to launch in December. We are also continuing the daily effort to make recycling and data destruction more secure, green and simple for the community.

How do you feel about B’ham’s tech scene?

I think Birmingham has a real opportunity to strengthen its position in the tech and innovation sector. All of the recent training initiatives brought forth by the Innovation Depot, Southern Research, UAB, etc. are creating a strong pool of talent that is making the city more attractive for technology companies to locate and relocate here.

Thanks so much for sharing, Danny!
