TechBirmingham and TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) are teaming up to host a Hackathon exclusive for high school students in the Birmingham Area. Teams will compete for one day to build solutions to make our world a safer place. We will kick off the event with a brainstorming session to get the creativity flowing on Friday evening. Saturday will be an all-day hacking and building day for the teams to work on their projects.
We are only accepting 20 teams of 4 students, and each team must have an educator as a sponsor (for homeschoolers, this will be a parent). Only one team from each school can represent unless we do not have enough teams entered. If you are a student who does not have a team, contact christina@techbirmingham.com, and we will place you on a team. The teacher does not need to be your coach, we will have professionals in the community that will be assigned to each team as a Coach. The coaches will be there to assist with technical needs, time management and for overall support for each team.
Workshops will be offered for skills help on October 14 and November 4, 2018, at the McWane Science Center from 1:30 to 3:30 PM in the classrooms. There is no cost to attend those sessions, but you must register if you would like to attend. The workshops will include crash courses in Python and Arduino. These are not a requirement to participate in the Hackathon.
