Meet Vinny Chiaramonte, Computer Science Teacher at Bumpus Middle School. Vinny is an Atlanta native and has lived in Birmingham for 10 years.  Read on to learn more about Vinny.

Hi Vinny! Let’s get started — Tell us a little about what you do?

I teach Computer Science Principles to 7th and 8th grade students at Bumpus Middle School

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Spending time with my family, learning, tinkering, making, golf, staying active, and reading.

Why did you decide to volunteer with TechBirmingham?

I have always had a desire to help others grow. TechBirmingham is a great opportunity to grow awareness about CS and bring young people into the field.

What is your perspective of today’s tech scene in Birmingham? What opportunities do you see for these future generations?

Tech is thriving in Birmingham. Opportunities for future generations are growing everyday in cyber-security, health industry, programming, banking, infrastructure, software development, and IT.

What is one piece of advice that you would give to kids that want to pursue a career in technology?

Anyone can learn the skills necessary for a career in technology. Try it…if you fail or encounter adversity, continue to try and press through. Use failure as a way to learn and advance your growth. Nothing ever works right the first time. That’s when the fun begins…problem solving and inquiry. The only limits on you are self-imposed – believe in yourself – sky’s the limit!!

I appreciate the opportunity to volunteer with TechBirmingham! It allows me to give back and grow the field I am passionate about as well as connect with other people in the industry.
