Volunteers Needed for XO Laptop Program

Birmingham’s deployment of XO Laptops is about to enter a new phase of distribution for thousands of elementary school students.  After a successful launch of the 1,000 Unit Pilot Program at Glen Iris Elementary, plans are being made for deploying the remaining 14,000 units.

The Mayor’s Office, School Board, and Consultants are putting together an assembly line to ready the remaining laptops. Steps include unboxing, battery installation, software imaging, and re-packing for distribution.

Volunteers are needed to help.  Beginning October 9th, daily sessions of two 4 hour shifts will go to work imaging the laptops.  Morning shifts are 8:00 a.m. to noon followed by the afternoon shift of 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  To volunteer please call Neil Segars at 205-427-8155 (cell), or email at nsegars@msn.com.
